The D-BASS jack-up drilling unit is a T-BASS design adaptation having two independent drilling rigs. This revolutionary feature allows rapid development of very deep wells from existing platforms.
Current natural gas prices justify drilling to deeper formations, popularly termed Sub-Salt Formations. The existing platforms were designed to support small platform rigs which are not capable of drilling to deep high pressure formations.
The 76-foot outreach of the D-BASS dual cantilever beams are designed to develop these deep wells without imposing drilling loads on the platforms while decreasing overall development time.
